I have worked with youth and girls in particular and am now going to embark on a career within Teenage Pregnancy on Monday ! Today is Friday!!
I feel slightly ill equipped for this role, having never had a child myself (I am 34!) but at the same time I have had my own struggles and feel I have transferable skills and the right attitude to take this role on.
I want to make a difference, I understand from previous roles that this attitude is sometimes drained out of you. I am determined NOT to let this happen. In particular I want to help the girls of Britain. Having grown up in this '1st world country', I know it can sometimes be tough !
We have a huge amount of poverty, high crime rates, and education that is in some cases disturbing !
We are a country of contrasts (like so many other countries!) and I want to help the girls of this country gain self esteem and empowerment. (and boys but I have to concentrate on one thing!)
My blog will endeavour to describe my journey into this new career. I would also appreciate comments and advice and personal accounts. Hoping to create a support network for teenage mums.. or mums that had children when they were in their teens, professionals and parents.. and lets not forget the dads... or children of teen parents !! Anyone with a view.
Maybe I am naive in saying this, in a country with many social problems. But I would love to make this blog positive and creative. I want to be pro-active and innovative and if anyone has any suggestions for projects along the way ... or ideas.. lets hear them !
If anyone is a teen and has any questions - please don't hesitate to ask.. you can be totally annonymous.. and although I am embarking on this career, I am a quick learner and have a background in Nursing and a Social Policy degree along with years of working with young people.... and hey ! I am still a girl .. and have learn't many things along the way !!
Hoping to make a difference... and empower myself and other females..
Cheers
Vicky xx
